Honestly, anyone can create their own blog these days, but what makes a blog successful? That’s the big question that I’ve been asked time and time again. While I am no expert, I have learned a thing or two over the last few years, so I thought it was about time I put my knowledge to good use and share my top five blogging tips for beginners. I’d love to hear from you, so be sure to leave me any questions you might want me to answer in a future post, by using the comments section below!
FIND YOUR NICHE.
Finding your niche is an important step in building any business, but doing this straight off the bat will help you streamline your content. What are you passionate about? What do you want the content of your blog to cover? Whatever it is, make sure that it’s “you,” and authentic 100% of the time. In doing so, you’ll be able to create value for your target audience, and they’ll continue to return to your blog as a resource. You’d never work for a company that you don’t support, so why create content that you don’t love? Just like if you don’t believe in or use a product, you wouldn’t share it with your friends and family, correct? So think about what you’re passionate about, use that to streamline your content, and you’ll never get bored or run out of topics!
INVEST IN EXPERTS.
I said it previously, and I’ll say it again. Anyone can create a blog! If you want to be taken seriously, and stand out amongst the crowd, you will have to rely heavily on experts in the beginning. Keep in mind that this does involve spending money, even before you start making any! From building your brand (purchasing your domain name, site hosting fees, website development), to learning from the pro’s, there’s a ton of creative workshops that cover SEO tips and tricks and how to expand your reach on Social Media. Your peer group will be a great resource for referrals!
ENGAGE WITH YOUR AUDIENCE.
Whether you’re receiving one comment/ email or fifty, your audience is the key to your blog’s success. It’s important to keep in mind that a well crafted post can attract new readers/ followers, allowing you the opportunity for growth. Be genuine and interact with your audience on social media by answering their questions, responding to comments, and thanking them for reading! A little bit goes a long way.
BE PATIENT, AND PERSISTENT.
Stay current and up to date with trends, sales, and new product release’s – whatever might fall under your niche. You want to continue to be relevant and at the top of your readers’ minds and Google search engines, so consistency is key. While posting too often can drive readers away by decreasing the quality of your blog content, brands look for a minimum of 3-4 relevant posts per week. Set attainable goals and work towards achieving them. Celebrate your successful collaborations and accomplishments, but never stop creating new content and goals.
ALLOW TIME TO REST AND RECHARGE.
While it seems silly, I find it extremely important to remind you that it is imperative to find a healthy work/ life balance when your job requires you to be active on Social Media. Whether you begin blogging as a hobby, or take it on as a full-time job, creating a schedule and routine is crucial to ensuring you don’t get burnt out. And if you feel like you are, allow yourself time to rest and recharge. I promise the world won’t end, and your content will be 10x better upon your return! You are human, your readers will respect your honesty/ transparency, and will connect with you on a deeper level!
