Considered the live music capital of the world, Austin is one of the most unique cities Chris and I have explored together. With hundreds of music venues, amazing food options and a healthy dose of Texas charm around ever corner, we jumped at the opportunity to attend the last weekend of the SXSW interactive/music/film festival. With limited time to plan, we set out to coordinate the best pet friendly trip to Austin for a fun weekend in our favorite city!
WHERE TO STAY: HOTEL VAN ZANDT
605 DAVIS STREET AUSTIN, TX 78701
Nestled in the Historic Rainey Street District, the boutique Hotel Van Zandt offers impeccable views, chic and sophisticated decor, and pet friendly accommodations for all breeds and sizes! Since adding Ripken to our family last year, traveling with two pets has become a bit of a challenge, but Hotel Van Zandt is known for their “over-the-top pet friendliness,” and welcomed ours with two beds, food/ water bowls, and a curated list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, parks and groomers to explore.
After a quick 3 hour drive from Houston, Chris and I arrived at the hotel early Friday evening and was greeted with free margaritas, treats for the pups and live music in the lobby! We checked in, helped the pups get settled and checked out the amenities before exploring Austin’s world-famous live music along Rainey Street.
WHAT TO DO
- Grab one of the free bikes provided by the hotel to explore downtown, Lady Bird Lake or bounce around the bungalows-turned-bars on Rainey Street.
- Take advantage of Hotel Van Zandt’s on-site restaurant, Geraldine’s, for delicious and unique food and drinks, while listening to the amazing sound of live music from local artists.
- Soak up the Texas sun from a poolside cabana, cool off by taking a dip in the pool, and catch up with friends as you look out over Lady Bird Lake. The Hotel Van Zandt fourth floor Pool Deck serves up tasty bites and drinks, providing the ultimate hangout.
- Pet friendly outdoor adventures include Barton Springs Pool, Barton Creek Greenbelt Hike, Hamilton Pool, Lady Bird Lake Trail, Mount Bonnell and the Austin’s Farmers Market.
