Happy Friday friends! Today Chris and I are kicking off the weekend with a hot yoga class at 6am! Yes, you read that right, 6am! I haven’t taken a single yoga class in over a year, so diving right into hot vinyasa flow sounds crazy. Then I realized that so many of us, including me, end up asking, “What to wear to hot yoga?” Its so important to be comfortable, but we also want to wear something that makes us look fantastic while we downward dog! So, I thought I’d share with you today this amazingly fashionable and functional look for your next hot yoga class.
Hot Yoga Prep – Its Not All About Fashion!
But wait! Before you ask what to wear to hot yoga, its important to be preparing your body for it! You are going to sweat in hot yoga. You are going to sweat A LOT! So be sure to take the time to hydrate sufficiently before you enter that hot oasis of body toning goodness! If I know that I’m going to be doing hot yoga ahead of time, I like to prepare by drinking a lot of water the day before as well as the day of. This way I can be sure that I’m ready to sweat away all the stress of the week!
Hot Yoga Benefits
Wondering what to wear. Preparing ahead of time for the grueling (yet satisfying) desert workout that awaits. Potentially walking home smelling less than fantastic. Is it all really worth it? You bet it is! To me, hot yoga is equally about mental fitness as it is physical fitness. Sweating out all of those toxins your body produces after stressful days at work or raising your family can be just as mentally therapeutic as physically beneficial. After a great hot yoga session, I feel so much more focused, peaceful, and stress free. And lets not forget that great feeling of enhanced flexibility that yoga provides!
What To Wear To Hot Yoga?
Ok, let’s get back to what you came here for! When considering what to wear to hot yoga, I still focus on finding items that are both functional and breathable (and of course, fashionable!) Capri style leggings allow you the flexibility of lifting your legs in the air, while avoiding a random flash to the person behind you. Plus, the compression will keep your muscles from going into shock and cramping when exposed to air conditioning as you step out of the studio.
For the upper body, I like a full coverage sports bra for hot yoga. This way I don’t feel over-exposed if I can’t stand the heat and need to remove my tank. Not like I really need an excuse to show off the back of this Anthro tank, right?! Most importantly, don’t forget to look for those items that are made specifically of a dry-fit material any time you can anticipate working up a sweat! This material is designed to wick the moisture away from your skin to the outside of the fabric, keeping you dryer and more comfortable. You’ll also thank me later when you pass the smell test when stopping at your favorite coffee shop on the way home.
Now that you are well prepared on what to wear to hot yoga and how to prepare, enough procrastinating. Time to leave for the gym. Wish us luck!
