Let’s recap the first two days of ‘The New Girls Guide to New York Fashion Week’. Monday’s post was all about your travel tribe (view the post here) and yesterday I talked about when booking hotel accomodations, location is key (view the post here). Today is all about getting invites and navigating shows.
There are some great resources for you to use. As soon as you’ve made the decision to attend, I highly suggest you invest in making a brand worthy and eye catching media kit. If you have one already, make sure to update your current stats and information. Unfortunately there is no rhyme or reason as to who gets invites and who doesn’t, but a great media kit will help you not only seal the deal, but it will also be great to have on hand as you’re attending shows and presentations throughout the week. Fohr Card is a great resource to use and is a pretty basic media kit that keeps track of all your analytics. You are able to see how you rank compared to other bloggers and which brands view it, while being able to monitor your progress. They also send out an email requesting who will be attending NYFW, which then is communicated to brands and leads to invites if you are the right fit. In addition to singing up for Fohr Card, go ahead and download the Fashion GPS Radar app and sign up for an account. Tons of brands utilize this service to send invites, while making it super easy to keep track of your schedule during the week!
Organization is important when contacting brands about fashion week events. As you’re continuing to build your connections throughout the year, keep track of the contact information from collaborations so you can utilize them in the future. Two weeks before the first show, Modem Online will update the shows and presentations for each day. Here’s where the fun begins. Not every brand will list their current press contact, which means you need to put in some time and effort. Look up brand websites, google press contact information, utilize those contacts you currently have, etc. This is also when it is beneficial for you to work together with your travel tribe; share contacts because its not a competition! I can not stress to you enough how important it is to work together as a team. Also, do not be afraid to ask for a plus one, for your friend or photographer. Once you have the email addresses, a quick one two sentence expressing your interest in attending their show (standing or seating) and attach your media kit! Create a schedule and fill in confirmed events, communicate daily and share in the excitement that is to come. You’ll be surprised at how many invites will come via email or the Fashion GPS app 48-72 hours before the week kicks off! RSVP TO EVERYTHING! You never know what your schedule will end up like.
Saturday morning we were able to sleep in from getting in late the night before. After brunch, we headed off to see Monique Lhuillier spring/ summer line, a collection of modern and bright pieces. I absolutely adored how she worked stylish separates into her collection, including the skirt and crop combo pictured below. Everything was so colorful, sophisticated and chic, including the flats and wedges in bold colors/ metallics and lucite wedge heels walking down the runway.
Afterwards we skipped on over to the Kendra Scott showroom to check out the new line releasing early next month! If you follow me on snapchat (afoxe01), you saw a glimpse of what the line looks like. Unfortantely we weren’t able to snap photos inside, but you’ll see it live here when it debuts next month!
Be sure to check back tomorrow for a day 3 recap and leave any questions/ comments below! Now its time for some birthday celebrations! xx
